Lucie Chamberlain, Kindergarten (½ Day PM)

Hello! My name is Lucie Chamberlain and I am excited to join the Brookwood Bears as a ½ Day Kindergarten teacher. Though I was born in the Czech Republic, I grew up primarily in the Salt Lake Valley and attended the University of Utah where I earned a BS in Elementary Education. I have over 9 years of teaching experience in the early elementary grades and recently completed an MS in Special Education. Though there is much to love about teaching any grade level, kindergarten keeps drawing me back in as my true love.

In addition to teaching, I stay busy with my family enjoying all the outdoor adventures that Utah has to offer. I can often be found camping, hiking, running, cheering from the sidelines of a soccer field, or curled up with a good book. I am looking forward to getting to know the Brookwood community and to working with the faculty, families and especially the students.

    Marissa Peterson, Second Grade

Hi! My name is Marissa Peterson. I am thrilled to be joining the Second-Grade team of teachers at Brookwood this upcoming school year! I grew up in Sandy and attended Brighton High School. I was actively involved in sports programs and extra-curricular activities. After graduating from Brighton, I attended Brigham Young University where I received a degree in Elementary Education and minors in both Dual-Immersion Teaching, and Teaching English as a Second Language.

During my time at BYU, I spent a year and a half living in Texas studying the Spanish language and culture. When I returned I knew I wanted to put it to use. I have spent the last two years teaching in the Dual-Immersion Program in Heber City. I taught the English side of Second grade, then most recently taught the Spanish Immersion side of Kindergarten.

I am the youngest of six children. My husband and I have 26 nieces and nephews combined. All of whom I adore. When I’m not teaching in the classroom, I can be found spending my time outside, horseback riding, fly-fishing, skiing, boating, and enjoying time with family.

I have always had a passion for teaching. I had many amazing teachers in my time as a student who inspired me to be better, and showed me what it was like to be truly invested in the lives and success of their students. They had made their classroom a safe and inviting place for me to reach my highest potential. I look forward to being the same kind of example to my students, and am thrilled to help the students in the Brookwood community learn and grow!

    Mrs. Audrey Rees, Playworks

I'm so excited to be Brookwood's Playworks Coach!  I've spent a lot of time at Brookwood the past several years as a parent, substitue teacher and PTA President.  I'm thrilled to now be in a capacity that will allow me to use my background to encourage Brookwood students to be active and healthy.  Many students at Brookwood know me through Bear TV.  I'm the producer/editor of the school run TV show.  I have a degree in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Exercise & Sports Science from the University of Utah.  For 12 years I was a  Sports Reporter/Producer at KSL, KJZZ, and Utah Jazz Broadcasting.  Having the opportunity to work with many professional and college athletes and coaches has given me the insight to help students be the best they can be.  You don't have to be an athlete to benefit from physical acitivity.  Playworks is a terrific way for students to get exercise and learn teamwork through positive reinforcement.

I was born in Salt Lake City, but grew up an Army Brat.  I have lived all over the United States including Washington D.C. and overseas in Germany.  My terrific husband Brett is from Australia and we have two amazing kids, Cameron and Arianna.  I'm a hockey mom and an avid reader.  I love traveling, cooking, Tae Kwon Do & watching sports.  Especially hockey!

I look forward to working with all the Brookwood students I've already come to know.  I'm hoping to make Playworks fun and accessible for everyone!

Mr. Jeff Nelson, Assistant Facility Manager

My name is Jeff Nelson I am the new Assistant Facility Manager.  It is an honor to be a part of the Brookwood team.  I’ve been in the custodial business for a little over 10 years but am still new to Canyons School District.

I was raised in Ferron, UT. It is small town full of good people. My middle school and high school years were spent in Hesperia, CA.  After high school, I missed Utah and came back to get my A.S. at Snow College. I then worked for LHM Sports and Entertainment for 15 years.

I love being outdoors: camping, fishing, and hunting. I love being part of a team, helping each other out so that we all can do our best every day.  I look forward to meeting the faculty, staff, and students.

    Paula Breen, Playground Assistant

Hi!  My name is Paula Breen and I’m so excited to begin helping on the playground and in the workroom at Brookwood this year!  I grew up in Salt Lake City and (many years ago) graduated from the University of Utah.  I have spent most of my time raising kids and working in the photography / digital graphics industry.  For the past 4 years, I have been working at Oakdale Elementary. I learned so much from the fabulous faculty and students there, and I will miss them!  But I am so looking forward to getting to know and love the Brookwood community!  In my spare time, I enjoy road and mountain biking, boating and skiing.  I particularly love these activities when sharing them with my husband, Scott, 3 kids, 3 bonus kids and all of their spouses, partners and the grandkids. I have a soft spot for animals (see sharing day at Oakdale pic) and I am embracing the inevitability of being the crazy cat lady.

    Miss Jennifer Johnson, Technology Coach

Hi, my name is Jen Johnson and I am the new technology coach at Brookwood Elementary.  This is my first year in Canyons School District and Brookwood, but I have 11 years of teaching experience.  I have previously taught 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in Washington County and Granite School Districts.  I loved teaching students and utilizing technology in my classroom on a daily basis.  I enjoy learning about effective ways to use technology in education, and I’m excited to share that knowledge and expertise with the teachers and students at Brookwood.

I grew up in Salt Lake City and attended Dixie State University for my undergraduate and Southern Utah University for my graduate degree.  I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.  I travel whenever I have the opportunity, but I also enjoy being in the outdoors camping, fishing, and hiking.  Other things I enjoy doing are reading, shopping, going to movies and the theater, playing games, going to concerts, gardening, and cooking.  I’m looking forward to getting to know and working with the teachers and students at Brookwood this year!
