Math Common Core State Standards

Posted in General Content

Dear Parents,

Canyons School District has adopted the Math Common Core State Standards that we, as a school, have started implementing this year. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent and clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills. The standards are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our community will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy. The Common Core State Standards Initiative is a state-led effort. The standards were developed in collaboration with teachers, school administrators, and experts to provide a clear and consistent framework to prepare our children for college and the workforce. The standards are evidence based and are informed by the highest, most effective models from states across the country and countries around the world, and provide teachers and parents with a common understanding of what students are expected to learn. Consistent standards will provide appropriate benchmarks for all students, regardless of where they live. All the Common Core State Standards are available to view or download at the following website: www.corestandards.org/the-standards

The Common Core Crosswalk is now available at the USOE website. Simply press the "Core Curriculum" button and there is a link to each grade level crosswalk.

Canyons School District has also adopted a new math program called enVision Math to be used as a tool and support for students, parents, and teachers in implementing the Math Common Core State Standards. Many of you have already had the opportunity to go online and browse through the digital resources available to students from home. If you have not been able to login, please ask your student's teacher for the login information. You can login at the following website: www.pearsonsuccessnet.com

We hope you will take advantage of the online resources to better support your students at home in learning the new standards.

Sincerely,

Alisa Hyer
