Brookwood School Community Council Meeting Minutes

Friday January 26, 2024

7:45-8:45 am Brookwood Library



Voting attendees: Corrie Barrett, Kathy Smith, Caroline Butters, Megan Olson, Kim Allen, Ann Odom, Jamie Dowdle, Mitch Evers, Hadley Waters, Kimball High, Derek Matsumori

Nonvoting attendees: Ashley Moehle 

 

  • Welcome- Megan Olson
  • Motion to approve October minutes- Megan Olson
    • Ann Odom seconds the motion
    • All voting attendees in favor
  • Artapalooza- Megan Olson
    • Nautical Bowl (Acai Bowl) will be coming and donating their proceeds
    • Characters will be coming again
    • No glow room this year
    • Smartest artist will be back
    • Auction will be online again and will close Sunday night
  • SCC Financial Update- Corrie Barrett
    • All budgets and spending are on track for the year (Landtrust, Cell Tower and School Fundraiser)
  • Safe Routes Utah Update- Corrie Barrett
    • Safety proposal for a right turn only exiting the school parking lot was denied because there has never been an accident at this location. The district will look at adding dedicated right and left turns only. Right turn only is not advised as it would create additional traffic issues on city streets.  
  • Possibility of increase to brain boosters- Corrie Barrett
    • Brain boosters could potentially be moved from two days a week to four days a week in order to increase teacher prep time
    • This option would be financially supported by the district
    • This change would increase school days by 10 minutes. The placement of the extra 10 minutes would be determined by transportation availability.
    • Reach out to our board representative Nancy Tingey with any questions or concerns regarding this issue
    • Town Hall meeting coming up with Nancy Tingey and Amber Shill (board members) on February 7 from 7:00-8:30 at Butler Middle School  
  • No input from PTA or community
  • Next SCC meeting February 16, 2024
