Brookwood School Community Council Meeting Minutes

Friday October 13, 2023

Voting attendees: Corrie Barrett, Kathy Smith, Caroline Butters, Megan Olson, Kim Allen, Ann Odom, Jamie Dowdle, Mitch Evers, Hadley Waters, Kimball High

  • Welcome- Megan Olson
  • Motion to approve September minutes- Megan Olson
    • Kim Allen seconds the motion
    • All voting attendees in favor
  • Digital Citizenship Report- Corrie Barrett
    • Digital Citizenship Week is next week Oct.16-20
    • Lessons taught by Charity Vernon through STEM Booster (November)
    • School chromebook filter is Content Keeper
    • Digital citizenship coordinator is Monica Rotermund
    • White Ribbon week is March 4-8, 2024
    • Digital Citizenship lessons taught by teachers throughout the year via Thrive Time curriculum
  • School safety report and safe walking routes- Corrie Barrett
    • Received approval to extend/heighten kindergarten wall
    • Parents and students need to use the crosswalk when getting to school and not walk through the carpool/drop-off lane
    • Parents need to make a full stop at the stop sign when leaving the school onto Snowbird Dr. 
    • Discussed possibility of adding a sidewalk in front of where the cars park east of the school
    • Discussed a problem with cars not stopping for kids at crosswalk on Snow Mountain Dr. 
    • Decided to put in a request for a crossing guard at the crosswalk that goes from Snow Mountain Dr. to Snowbird Dr.
    • Discussed problem with students as well as older kids climbing and hiding behind the wall surrounding the cell tower. 
      • Will increase supervision by the wall
  • Review Assessment Data- Corrie Barrett
    • Reading goal action plan- TSSP and Land Trust Plan can be found on the SCC page of the school website 
    • Second year in Wonders program after switching from Reading Street
      • No dip in performance
    • Reading Inventory growth was 77% for 4th & 5th grades in the 22/23 year
    • Math
      • Math Composite- 85% schoolwide proficiency
      • 64% growth in math computation in each grade level
      • 2022-23 Acadience Scores
        • Computation 64% proficiency, CAP(concepts and applications) 84% proficiency, Composite 73% proficiency
    • School Climate Goals
      • Goal for students to not miss more than 9 school days (including excused absences)
      • Action Plan
        • Full time social worker, aide to track attendance, provide attendance incentives, classroom attendance incentives, PBIS Rewards, school store, curriculum resources, class meeting implementations, counseling groups to discuss students emotional needs (ex: anxiety), weekly email attendance message.
        • Morning meetings held at least 4 days a week
        • 52% of students had 9 or fewer absences last year – goal is 65%
        • Attendance Plan- found on school website
          • Keeping same attendance goals as last year
