- Some graphs make it appear as though K-3 had low growth
- Growth is more challenging to attain when scores start high
- Katie Dunn: What is unique about the 24-25 4th grade cohort? They score higher than other grades
- The 24-25 5th grade cohort has academic ans social deficits from the pandemic. They also went from4 classes in 4th grade to 3 classes in 5th grade. Large class sizes made it difficult to manage behavior.
- The 24-25 4th grade cohort has an easier blend of personalities and less challenging behavior issues
- Jessica Pohlman asked if using Beanstack would actually be beneficial to achieving school reading goals.
- Ashley Theodore mentioned concerns that Beanstack is similar to social media style apps and could create an unnecessary competition for some kids and undermine a love of reading
- Heidi Vincent: last year during SCC meetings, members said that teachers could do more to encourage reading at home. Using Beanstack is a response to that concern
- Jessica Pohlman: would like to see baggy books come back. They worked well to motivate parents to read with kids
- Liz Palmer: Could PTA run things throughout the year in addition to the Bookworm Bear month to encourage at home reading?
- Monica Rotermund: classes log beanstack minutes in class
- Several members mentioned they like kids logging their minutes in their planners as well
- Jessica Pohlman mentioned that Beanstack may not be as big an incentive for reaching reading goals.
- Heidi Vincent: Beanstack makes it easir to collect data, recognize trends and focus incentives
- Jessica: data may be scewed because some students/parents don’t participate
- Kasandra Hokanson: we have the same problbem with paper tracking
- What is BFF?
- Buildin Fact Fluency is a system that helps kids solidify math facts and fluency, aws well as build oral math language skills, through games and activities
