      • Lindsey Metcalf asked why students use paper and then transfer to computer
      • Teachers explained that they use tech to prepare for testing and also to be more efficient. 2. Megan Olson & Tracie Duncan explain that math on paper helps kids see the process.
      • Liz Palmer asked if students write essays on paper before they type them.
        • Ms. Duncan: Yes, they do lots of writing and prepping on paper first.
        • Ms. Smith: Writing amounts can vary
        • Ms. Rotermund: It’s also valuable for students to learn to edit a documenton the computer. iii. Liz Palmer asked if you can turn off autocorrect.
    • Ms. Carr: There is no autocorrect in canvas. The teachers send feedback and students correct their work.

iv. 5th grade is working on elaborating their writing so they have more tech time.

      v. What’s the difference between canvas and google docs?

    1. Mr. Hunter: They use google docs only for writing essays.

vi. Lezlie White asked to clarify if most math is on paper and students use tech just fo ST Math, quick checks and practice                        buddies.

    • Yes, that’s correct
    • Teachers: ST Math reinforces concepts learned in class. Levels can be ordered by teachers. Each child is working on their own level.
      • Ms. Wilcox: data on ST Math shows that it improves student math outcomes. vii. Liz Palmer: Do students ever do work for eachother?

  • Teachers: Not usually. If they do switch computers they’re noticed quickly and corrected. 2. Students do collaborate and teach each other on difficult problems, which is a good thing. viii.Camille Merkley: Is LAN school effective?
      • Teachers: Yes, if we don’t notice something another student will tell us when someone is off task.
      • Mr. Hunter: Some kids know how to circumvent LAN school by opening another window, but teachers know how to sopt when this is happening.
      • Ms. Vincent: Teachers can close kids’ tabs and block sites on the spot
      • Ms. Butters: ipads in K and 1st can be locked into the app students are using so they can’t leave the app.

ix. Chrislyn Woolston: Would it be helpful for teachers to have anadditional screen that’s specifically for LAN School?

        • Teachers: No. They’re able to monitor and are actively working with students while they’re on tech.
        • Mr. Hunter: Positive behavior reinforcement and precision correction helps to keep students on task
